This is nothing to be proud of, unfortunately… But it did happen and it was my own stupid fault I must admit.

It all started with a bright morning sun, the first after 4 days of rain. It was somewhere near Askja, right in the middle of Iceland, far away from… well… everything so it seemed acterwards. I had the bright idea of letting Caro take a few snapshots of yours truly, in what should have been a somewhat more spectacular position. You know, that one picture that stands out. That front cover candidate. That picture everyone still keeps asking you about: « noooo, is that really you? »

So a nice spot was selected with some stunning scenery in the background. Just for the the sake of clarity, this was the plan: Caro would install both photo and movie camera right behind a corner to capture our hero drifting his way through the Remote Icelandic landscape.

So that’s how things went. I arrived at a nice pace, and just befor the corner, I hit the throttle and pushet the rear sideways. Caro came running to me and proudly showed the resulting pictures. I still remember her telling me how nice a picture she had taken. But t the same time I still remember me thinking: hey honey, I can do better than that.

So I went for a second try. Something I admittedly shouldn’t have done, so it seemed afterwards. Enthusiasm and self confidence however, made me forget the limitations of both my riding skills and the equipment we were using. After all, we were riding 50/50 tyreswhich could handle it all, but required just that little more precaution when doing crazy stuff on whatever surface we were riding. Right before the corner, the throttle was opened violently and the rear broke out just a bit too heavily. Nothing to be worried about, if it weren’t yours truly responding to that event in an appropriate way. Call it panic, lack of expertise, limited skills or just plain stupidity. I suddenly closed the throttle, resulting in the rear wheel regaining traction and well… check it out yourself.
